Museum für Gestaltung at Ausstellungsstrasse
In 2018 a further location will again be added to the site in the Toni-Areal. The Museum’s original building at number 60 Ausstellungsstrasse is currently undergoing renovation. The modern building from the 1930s is a key work of Neues Bauen in Switzerland. From March 2018 temporary exhibitions, insights into the rich collections and various events will await visitors in a unique ambiance.
At the centre of the current redesign work is the opening up again of the large, two-story exhibition hall. Additional exhibition spaces are being made at basement level. At several places in the renovated building the Museum will present selected highlights from its important collections. On the 3rd floor a studio will be made for the educational department and in the light-flooded gallery a lounge with design icons will be created, which will invite visitors to discover, touch and to spend some enjoyable time. At ground floor level a cafeteria in the foyer will cater for visitors’ physical well-being.
The modern building from the 1930s is one of the best preserved examples of Neues Bauen in Switzerland. The gentle renovation allows the unique character of this historic building to be preserved. All interventions are made in close consultation with conservationists. Ruggero Tropeano Architekten are responsible for the redesign work.
