Two countries, one focus and the many things associated with that focus provide a
frame for this exhibition. It is filled with design and thoughts relating to creative interfaces or empty spaces, and to the constant, lively exchange between Sweden and Switzerland. As part of its European tour, an exhibition within the exhibition shows the winning products from last year's "Excellent Swedish Design" award. We respond to this greeting from the north with a careful selection of "excellent" contemporary Swiss design, thus creating a climate of dialogue between the two design worlds. From here the path leads to special thematic scenes. IKEA, H&M and ABBA are familiar names here. The question is not "better or worse" but "different, similar or the same", and ultimately it is about the (ir)relevance of a national design mentality in today's global marketplace. The exhibition is a co-production by the Museum für Gestaltung Zürich's Design Collection and Svensk Form (Stockholm), in co-operation with the Swedish Embassy in Bern.
