Against the background of a mood of social and political change, in the 1980s in Swiss graphic design, too, a new expressiveness became evident. Influences came from the aesthetics of the punk movement and from the first experiments with Macintosh. Alternative cultural and political organisations consciously emphasised a new visual appearance in their efforts to distance themselves from established institutions. Constructive friction with the stylistic severity of the Swiss Style helped young designers to arrive at innovative visual forms of expression that have continued to enrich the area of graphic design to the present day. The exhibition presents posters from 1980 to 1995, offering a broad diversity of design approaches that consciously break the rules. Among the works included are posters by Peter Bäder, Polly Bertram and Daniel Volkart, Richard Feurer, Roli Fischbacher, Peter Frey, Ralph Schraivogel, Mihaly Varga, Cornel Windlin and Ruedi Wyss.
