Japanese posters have developed in a particular way since the Second World War as a support medium for massive economic growth. Japanese graphic design is still very highly thought of all over the world. It is characterized by an unmistakable style of its own, graphic expressiveness and masterly printing technique. Our exhibition juxtaposes designers who have been distinguished for many years, including Yusaku Kamekura, Ikko Tanaka, Kazumasa Nagai and Shigeo Fukuda, and designers from the younger generations, here including Kazunari Hattori, Nagi Noda and Kenjiro Sano. Thus tradtion and modern work confront each other excitingly. The exhibition concentrates on the last 15 years, with a selection of over 150 posters. The exhibition was made possible by Dai Nippon Printing (DNP) Co. Ltd., Tokyo and will be shown in various European capitals. The exhibition will be accompanied by a publication.

Dai Nippon Printing in cooperation with Neue Sammlung, Munich and Uměleckoprůmyslové museum (Museum of Decorative Arts) in Prag has made the exhibition possible. After its opening in Munich the exhibition tours to Frankfurt (Museum für Angewandte Kunst) and Warsaw (The Poster Museum at Wilanow).
