See different aspects of home life evolve from the architect's ideal design to everyday life as it is actually lived. This exhibition, which enjoys generous support from IKEA Switzerland, spirits visitors on to a journey through time and the history of home design - from bourgeois beginnings via Modernism to the homescapes of the 70s, ending up with an artistic impression of the future. Model interiors and designer objects - 1910, 1930, 1950, 1970 - enter into an exciting dialogue with photographs and objects from private home albums and available material from the consultation and furniture market like «Ideales Heim» and IKEA. The various architectural programmes from about 50 local authority housing estates built by the city of Zurich since 1908 tell a story of social commitment, democratization and the spirit of the times.

The way our homes look is influenced by a number of factors: the design «Zeitgeist», the particular living space, the furniture market, individual taste and - not least - the cultural and economic background all contribute to what ultimately appears as a «home». Where are we today, what could concern us in future? How will the resources at our disposal be used and distributed, how do we relate to space? These questions are addressed by the designers and artists Wout Fierens, Manuela Pfrunder, Lutz/Guggisberg, Claudia and Julia Müller, Yves Netzhammer and Christian Waldvogel in the second part of the exhibition.
